2018 ArtsFest + EcoFest @ Laurel Park

The FEmale Foundry teamed up once again with the UCA Sculpture Club and invited more friends from the University of Kentucky S.C.R.A.P. to pour some hot iron at the ArtsFest + EcoFest event located at Laurel Park in Conway, AR. It was extremely hot, but our crew members pushed past the heat exhaustion and poured every mold. We even got some of the public involved in the making by selling Scratchblocks!

The second iron pour on UCA’s Campus in recent years! Each time the FEmale Foundry shows up to UCA’s Iron pours, they grow bigger each time. This pour was at night and right outside the Schichtl Studio Arts building. This crew of mostly women rocked everything they did and accomplished an even smoother iron pour than the last.

You are looking at the small iron crew that helped make this pour happen! Beaulah was awoken from her 23 year nap and she was ready to eat some metal!

This was UCA’s first iron pour in over 20 years! They tapped their first iron at 9:30pm. Sylvia Hardin who is both President of UCA Sculpture Club and The FEmale Foundry restored the furnace called Beaulah (named after Professor Massey’s Great Grandmother) and inspired a group of students who had never poured metal before, some of them not even art students, to pour iron! It was a bumpy road to get to this point but it was well worth it. Everyone involved in this pour will remember it for many years to come as they grow as metal artists.
