EMily Baker

Emily Baker received her BFA in Interior Design from California State University, Chico. Upon graduating, she worked in the fabrication industry, predominantly in metal and mold making. She received her MFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2016 focusing on performance, installation and bronze casting. 

Artist Statement: 

Emily comes from a world of ponytail-facelifts, wedgies, and glitter hairspray, where chalk is the remedy for callouses ripped open, and athletic tape holds most of the team together. Throughout her practice, she plays upon sensibilities gained from her background as a competitive gymnast; a dynamic balance of grit and grace. Her work focuses on identity, repair, and retroactive healing, within the body, landscape, narrative or material. She familiarize herself with a material through touch, exploring each nook and cranny as her fingers do the listening. She intends on using this careful attentiveness in every endeavor.
